When he returns to the present his battle with Reverse Flash does not go his way until Eddie kills himself, which essentially kills Eobard as well because he is Eddie's descendant.

Barry is distraught and Iris comforts him, they hold hand on the porch and Barry for the first time seems to find peace in that moment with her. However, Zoom shows up and Barry chases after him as Iris calls his name. Filled with so much rage, the Team are concerned for him and devise a plan to stop Zoom without him. When this fails, they realize that Zoom's request to race Barry needs to be fulfilled.
Barry wins the race and they meet the real Jay Garrick, who shares the same face as his father Henry. Barry feels he is too broken to continue on this way. Iris goes to him and tells him to do whatever he must and that she'll wait for him.
