For example, if one believer decides to refrain from kissing until marriage, while another decides to kiss on the second date, is one believer more right than the other? The Bible says nothing on this topic. Therefore, there is freedom for the individual to choose what is best.

Continuing the above example, it is fine for a Christian to choose not to kiss until marriage. However, when that same person begins to tell others that kissing before marriage is sin or somehow less spiritual, they are making their preference a principle, therefore putting others in unbiblical shackles. To judge any person apart from their sin is indeed sinful.

All other matters are to be judged by the only Judge and Lawgiver, our Heavenly Father. The Lord has created everyone with distinctions that bring together a holistic community. To not celebrate differences in others that do not bring harm to the body or denounce the glory of God belittles one of the reasons God created us - namely that He would be glorified through our diversity while at the same time being glorified through our unity.

God has modeled the need for giving grace to others by giving grace to us through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ. Still, one of the most difficult things for Christians to do is to actually give grace. The main reason many present their preferences as principles is due to a lack of love shown practically through giving grace. If the Bible teaches that something is sin, then it is sin. Do not do it.

The subtitle gives us details: Jerry Bridges carried out a long and faithful ministry and this book was one of his most important. In it he offers a thorough explanation of the gospel and shows how the gospel pertains to every Christian every day. Teens who read it will learn the important discipline of preaching the gospel to themselves every day and they will become convicted that the very same gospel that saved them will sustain them to the end.

There are many books that teach Christians how to know and do the will of God, but none is better suited to young believers than this one. For some people, and perhaps especially young people, theology and doctrine can be intimidating words or even irrelevant ones.

But this should not be the case. It must not be the case.

How will you be intentional in preparing them for that day? Can a Christian date a non-Christian?

Scripture is clear that a Christian is not to marry a non-Christian, but what about dating? As the parent you should think through and decide at what point a relationship with the opposite sex becomes a violation of scripture. Can they go to lunch with a non- Christian? When does a relationship begin to move toward marriage? Does that only include the more exclusive relationships? Again, your definition of dating and the levels of relationships will help dictate your answer.

For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?

Again, Scripture is very clear.

Why Is The Gospel Coalition Complementarian?

Sex is reserved for marriage, but what is allowed physically in a relationship outside of marriage? Can a couple lie down on the couch to watch a movie?

What are they allowed to touch? What is off limits? What if the couple is cold, can they snuggle under a blanket? Too often young people are left alone to figure this question out on the go, often at the pace of the other person.

We suggest that you as the parent give direction in this area. Decide what is too far down to the specifics and communicate this with your teenager before they ever get into a potentially tempting situation. It may be awkward but your teenager will greatly benefit.
